
Zero-C offers several outdoor enclosure options for its systems. This is a three-part post that explains the features and benefits of each, allowing you to make the best decision for your application. The uninsulated panel design is the most inexpensive option offered. This type of enclosure is similar to a condensing unit enclosure. It provides some weather protection, but it is not weather-tight. This is an excellent solution for small to medium-sized systems where minimizing first cost is the priority.
What are the disadvantages of the uninsulated panel?
As previously mentioned, uninsulated panels are not weather-tight. This means that moisture, maybe from a driving rain storm or snow, could enter through the vents of the insulated panel. Because this is not weather-tight, the longevity of the components won’t be as long as they would be in a system that is in a mechanical/engine room.
Plus, since everything is housed outdoors, it’s not as easy to service as a rack in a rack house or indoors. What’s more, the technician working on this type of system has to stand outside while performing maintenance. That means they can be exposed to extreme weather conditions, whether it’s scorching heat, pouring rain, or one of those brutal, windy winter days we get. And let me tell you, they’re eager to get out of the elements as soon as they can!
